| Notes |
- 1 - Duncan married a daughter of MacFarlane of Tullichentaull. They had five sons and three daughters. The sons were George, John, Andrew, Walter and Duguld. George succeeded his father.
Duguld was the progenitor of the families of Ledard and Acharossan.
Dugald, the founder of the family, was a great grandson of 'Black John', fourth son of John, 15th Chief of Macfarlane (1612-1624). He married Margaret, daughter of Robert Crauford of Inverlaurin in Glen Fruin, Dunbartonshire. They had six sons and one daughter: Duncan, Walter, Andrew, Robert, George, John and Janet. Dugald was laird of Kilmuir and acquired the property of Acharossan by purchase. He died in 1779. Margaret died in 1818.

2 - Livingstone, [6th of Acharossan] who resided at Bellshill, near Glasgow, had in his possession two documents, instruments of Sasine, one dated 1768 granted by Dugald, the founder of this family, in favour of his wife, and the other of the same nature granted by John Lamont of Ardlamont in favour of Walter and Duncan MacFarlane (the two elder sons of Dugald), referring to the estate of Acharossan and giving power to sell or part with the same if they saw fit.
