- 1 - 3rd son
2 - Dugald married Margaret, daughter of Robert Crauford of Inverlaurin in Glen Fruin, Dunbartonshire. They had six sons and one daughter: Duncan, Walter, Andrew, Robert, George, John and Janet.
As we have shown, his elder brother Walter, having abandoned Acharossan for his patrimony, this estate fell to Andrew's share. Acharossan is in the parish of Kilfinnan, Argyllshire, about nine miles from Tigh-na-bruaich. It looks across Loch Fyne to Muckroy, another Macfarlane location.
Acharossan is a valley of great sylvan beauty, one mile east of Kilfinnan Glen; through both run good trout streams. There is a fine umbrageous avenue of old trees overspreading the walk leading from Acharossan House to the Kilfinnan road.
At the junction of the ways is the old farm house and steading of Acharossan. In the churchyard of Kilfinnan is an enclosed burial ground, still the property of the family, around the walls of which are marble slabs 'bearing the names of many Macfarlanes who fell in battle'.
To Andrew of Acharossan and Captain James MacFarlane of Erins and Muckroy we owe a debt which cannot be repaid in any currency. Through their researches, to which we have been permitted access, we have derived much of our information regarding several cadet families.
Andrew (1) married Jane, eldest daughter of Alexander Campbell of Ormidale - otherwise stated 'from Ballymoulan'. They had at least five sons and one daughter, George, Alexander, John, Robert, Parlane and Helen.

3 - "To Maj. James MacFarlane of the Erins line interest in genealogy we owe much of what we know of the Macfarlane families in Argyllshire because their history was preserved in his correspondence with his distant cousin, Andrew MacFarlane of Acharosson, 2nd Baron."
from 'The barons of Arrochar and their cadets' a manuscript by Chevalier Terrance Gach MacFarlane. Chapt. 19 - 20d.
4 - In Memory of ANDREW MACFARLANE of Acherossan who died 6th July 1825 age 85, and JANE CAMPBELL his wife who died 3rd June 1821 age 57.
(MI from Kilfinan churchyard of tablet on West Vault.)
"Tablet fallen from wall and misplaced. Record taken from a previous 1973 recording.
Middle on the wall. Later found and replaced in vault some reading legible" 2001 note.

5 - I am seeking to confirm the details of a tree of the descendants of Andrew MacFarlane of Acharosson, the second laird of this house, who succeeded to the estate in 1779. Acharosson (sometimes called Auchrossan) is one mile south of Kilfinan kirk, east of the B8000.
Andrew, 2nd Laird, who had, at least, four sons (George, Alexander, John, & Robert) and was succeeded by his eldest son: George

5 - Andrew MacFarlane of Acharosson, 2nd Laird, was born before 1 June 1756 (when he was baptised in Kilfinan Parish, Argyllshire) in Scotland. Prior to his succession he lived at Inversnaid, Stirlingshire, and thereafter at Acharosson in Kifinan Parish, Argyllshire. He married in 1785 his distant cousin Miss Jean Campbell of Ormidale, who was a daughter of Alexander Campbell of Ormidale, 2nd Laird, and became Lady Acharosson. They had two daughters and six sons.
Andrew died on 6 July 1825[2]. A tablet was erected on the wall of Kilfinan church "In Memory of ANDREW MACFARLANE of Acherossan who died 6th July 1825 age 85, and JANE CAMPBELL his wife who died 3rd June 1821 age 57". The tablet was displaced after 1973, and is now in the vault[3].
